Golf!

Last weekend I enjoyed playing golf.  I haven`t played in a long time.  The last time I played was when I was in high school.  Last Sunday, one of my friends took me to the driving range in Sugita.  We didn't play a game; we only practiced hitting balls for about 2 hours.  I was so bad, though. I realized that I am bad at golf. A man who was practicing next to me came over and started teaching me! He was an older man who had been practicing for a long time. I was very lucky.
Playing golf looks very easy on TV, but it is much harder than it looks!  I had a lot of fun, but after I was so tired!
How about you? Do you enjoy playing golf?

Flowers in English

One thing I love about living in Japan is that there are many flowers here and there.  It is easy to see many different kinds of flowers throughout the year just walking around the neighborhood. In my hometown in Florida, it is different. People like flowers in potted plants, and yards full of neatly trimmed grass. In Japan, I see many flowers growing more wildly here and there and many more types. Since the area around Japanese houses is much smaller, people tend to have flowers, plants and trees rather than grass. Despite the fact that there are so many buildings crowded together, there is still so much green around!  Here are some pictures of flowers that I have taken here and there. It is kind of a hobby for me!

How about you? What kind of flowers do you like? Do you have flowers around your house?

here and there あちこち

Iris

Happy Mother's Day!

Today is one of the most important days of the year.  There is a saying, "A mother's work is never done" . I think this is very true because a mother doesn't have any vacations, or time off. A mother has to work even when she is sick. A mother has to work even when she is tired. I think being a mother is the most important job in the world.

Say what?! - Please refrain...

The other day I noticed a polite sign in Yokosuka.  The sign uses the word "refrain". It means that when a person wants to do something, he should stop and not do it.  I don`t think that this word is good for this situation because it is a little too polite.  For things that are against the law, stronger words should be used such as PROHIBITED or NOT ALLOWED.

I think the bottom part is funny because it says ILLEGAL littering.  Is there LEGAL littering? No, of course not! Additionally, it says "serious offenders" which sounds like it is ok to litter a little bit.

By the way, what do you call a person who litters?  A LITTERBUG!

In my country, you can see many signs like this along the road.

I think the signs in English are much more forceful.
