STUDENT BLOG: Hiking in Oze

Last Saturday and Sunday, I went hiking in Oze which is renowned for
its beautiful marshlands, wild flowers, and birds. It was nice weather for hiking that day. The sky was clear blue and the wind blew briskly.
I had been there several times before, and I'm always impressed by the abundance of nature every time I go there.

The spring season is an extremely popular time at Oze because there is an abundance of white flowers called Mizu-basho.
I didn't know the name of this flower in English, so I looked up
the word in the dictionary. Mizu-basho is called “skunk cabbage” in English. I was surprised to know that! Why skunk???

By the way, I like Oze during the autumn. In late September and early
October the grasses of the marshland turn bright yellow.

I enjoyed hiking in Oze during my favorite season!

**Teacher note -
The white flowers are called "skunk cabbage" because some of them have an unpleasant and disgusting smell, like a skunk.
