Kounan Lounge Festival

Last year I participated in a Japanese speech contest at the Kounan Lounge Festival.  I gave a speech about Japanese women and monsters.  This year, I was asked to be the MC for the event. By the way, as the MC, I knew that I would have to speak only in Japanese, so I knew it wasn't going to be easy for me. Speaking broken Japanese in ordinary conversation is one thing, but trying to speak perfectly with polite Japanese in front of 200 people would be a challenge for me. But in any case, I was very happy to be part of it.  In addition to being the MC, I was also asked to sing a few lines from "Let it go".  I am not that great a singer, but I love singing, so I thought, "Why not?". I had been practicing everyday for the past month up to the event which was held yesterday.  There was also a rehearsal about a week ago which I pulled off without a hitch, including the singing part, in acepella! Then came the big day.

When I stepped up to the microphone, and started to speak, I thought something was wrong with the mic because I couldn't hear my voice. Someone rushed out to check my mic, but then I realized that it was working ok.  My voice wasn't because I was so nervous. However, after a while I calmed down and finished it until the end.  The foreign speakers were really great. I had taken a break from studying Japanese because I have been so busy at work, but this motivated me to start again!

The festival was a lot of fun for me, and I was really happy to be part of it. Maybe next year I will take part in the karaoke contest!

Japanese Translation

昨年、私は港南ラウンジ祭りの日本語スピーチコンテストに参加しました。私は日本の女性と怪物について語りました。
今年はイベントのための司会を頼まれました。司会は日本語で話さないといけない事を知っていたので、私にとって簡単でないことは分かっていました。
普段の会話でくだけた日本語を話すことも一つですが、200人の前で丁寧な日本語を完璧に話そうとすることは私にとって挑戦でした。
いずれにしても関わることが出来てとても楽しかった。
また、司会に加えてレットイットゴーから数節、歌ってくれないかとも頼まれました。
私はそん上手い歌手ではありませんが歌うことは大好きなので　“もちろん”と思いました！昨日行われたイベント前月は毎日練習しました。
一週間前にあったリハーサルもアカペラで歌う部分も含め無事に去りました。　そしてその日がやって来ました。

私がマイクに近づいて話し始めた時、私の声を聞くことができなかったので、マイクが故障していると思いました。
誰かが飛び出して来てマイクを確認しました。その後マイクは正常だということに私は気づきました。とても緊張していたため自分の声が聞こえなかったのです。
しかし、しばらくすると落ち着いてきて最後まで終えることが出来ました。
外国人スピーカーはとてもすばらしかったです。
私は仕事がとても忙しかったので日本語の勉強を休んでいましたが、再会する気にさせてくれました。

このお祭りは私にとって、とても楽しかった。そして関わることが出来たことがとてもうれしいです。
多分、来年はカラオケコンテストに出るでしょう！！
