#712: The Miami Sauna Pt. 2

Let’s get started!

Now, you may be wondering what does my asthma have to do with the price of tea in China…..well, absolutely nothing...but I do want to tell about a new humidifier I got in the classroom. Do you remember? I mentioned it in BLOG #708. Well, it arrived now.  It is great. It will help to keep the air misty and prevent any viruses from floating around in the air.  It holds a lot of water, so I just fill it once a day and it can go all day. I read that having a humidifier is also good for people with pollen allergies, and that time is right around the corner!  Maybe that is why a humidifier helped me with my asthma as a child.

さて皆さんは今、私の喘息の話がいった

い何と関係があるのだろう？と思ってい

るかもしれません。... そうです、特に何

もありません、ただ是非みなさんにお伝

えしたかったのが教室に備えた新しい加

湿器の事なんです。覚えていますか？

ブログの#708 でも書きましたが、その加

湿器が今届きました。良好です。

教室に霧を送り込むことで、ウィルスが

空中に浮遊するのを防ぐのに役立つこと

でしょう。それに一度水を満タンにして

おけば、一日中運転可能です。

読んだものによると、加湿器は花粉アレ

ルギーの人にも良い効果があるそうす。

花粉の季節はもうそこまで来ています。

以上の事を考え合わせると、子供の頃の

喘息から私を救ってくれたのは加湿器だ

ったということになるかもしれません。

So there I was, I could hardly breathe.  My head was under a hot wet towel, and I was breathing in steam from a hot bath. Actually, the whole bathroom was steamy like a sauna.  My father was holding me in his arms over the bath.  

When I was a child, I had asthma really bad. One of the treatments was...steam.  I don’t know why, or even if it worked but I have many memories like this as a child. In my bedroom was a humidifier to keep the air moist for me.  At that time, I was living in Virginia Beach.  My mother often scolded me not to run around outside because it would trigger an asthma attack…well…...

では始めましょう。

ある日の私は息をするのが大変な状況下

にありました。頭に蒸しタオルをかぶせ

られ、熱いバスタブから立ち登る湯気の

中で私は息をしていました。

実際、お風呂場はまるごとサウナのよう

です。父はそんな私を浴槽越しに支えな

がら腕に抱いていました。

子供の頃、私にはひどい喘息がありまし

た。そのための療法の一つは...スチーム

でした。どういう理由でなのか、また実

際にスチーム療法が効果があったのかす

ら分かりませんが、子供の時のこうした

記憶はほかにも沢山あります。

私の寝室には、湿度を保つ為に加湿器が

置かれていました。当時はマイアミ

ビーチに住んでいました。母はよく、外

で走り回る私を叱ったものです。喘息の

発作の引き金になってしまうからです。

#710 The Most Beautiful Thing PT. 3

Let’s get started!

I have seen a rainbow many times here and there. Usually it is a quarter, or half of a rainbow broken by clouds. Now, in front of my eyes was a FULL rainbow. Brighter than ever with all the colors, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Not only was it a full, complete rainbow, but just above it was another rainbow! A bit fainter, but nevertheless, a second rainbow. Amazing! It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my life. I felt over-joyed. I looked down on the street to see if anyone else had noticed it besides me.  I expected to see everyone standing still and adoring it.  But it seemed as if no one had noticed.  There was a girl standing in front of the river that runs down into the bay. She wasn’t moving, so I thought she must have seen it too. When I looked closer, she was holding her smartphone in her hand.  I thought “See! People are missing all the natural beauty around them when they are only staring at their smartphones while walking. Suddenly, behind her…..in the river was…..a third rainbow!  I knew this was a once in a lifetime experience. Amazing. 

さぁ、始めましょう。

虹は今まで幾度と無く, あちこちで見て

きました。たいがい目にする🌈は雲で遮

られた四の一から半分の大きさでした。

ところが今、目の前にある虹は全く欠け

のない完全な(半円)形をしています。

それもかつてないほど明るく、くっきり

とした七色: 赤、オレンジ、黄、緑、青

紺、紫。形だけでなく、まさに完璧な虹

です。ところがです、その少し上にも、

もう一つ虹がみえるではありませんか！

いくらか薄くではありますが、それでも

二つ目の虹といえるでしょう。驚きで

す。これは私が産まれてから目にした最

も美しい光景のひとつです。

溢れるような喜びを感じました。私の他

にも誰か気づいた人がいるのではないか

と、下の通りを見下ろしてみました。

誰もが感動のあまり立ち尽くして、見

入っている光景を期待したのですが、気

が付いた人がいた様子はありません。湾

に流れる川を前にして、一人立っている

女の子がいます。彼女の動きは止まって

いたので、きっと見たに違いないと思い

ましたがよくみると彼女はスマートフォ

ンを手にしています。

「ほらね、歩きスマホをはじめる事か

ら、人は自分の周りの自然の美しさを見

逃すようになってしまうんだ。」と思い

ました。

とっ、突然、彼女の背後の..川に...

三つ目の虹🌈が! ! 何という事でしょう。

この時私はこれは人生で二度とない経験

になるだろうと確信しました。
