These are called "trash bins". Each house receives one from the city. Once or twice a week a garbage truck comes by to empty them. Sometimes, there are trash bins for recyclables, but they are usually optional.

TRASH

October is here, the typhoon is gone, and the sun has come out.  I have a feeling this is going to be a marvelous day.

This morning when I took out the trash, I thought, "Somebody put the wrong trash here. It's not plastics day, it's burnable trash day!  And look, they didn't even properly cover it with the net! What if some crows came and scattered the trash ?!?!"

It was strange because I never thought that way in the U.S.  I just threw everything into one big container and never gave it a second thought.

Maybe I am turning Japanese.  Do you think so?
