Charlotte is the woman who has been taking care of my father full-time.  She is full of laughter, warmth, and joy, and is so full of compassion. Not only does she take care of my father, but she also has a dog who is missing one foot, a werewolf cat (more on that later), and her own family members. Tragically, her son was killed in a horrific car accident just two years ago.  He was only 20. He was a huge fan of Superman, so Charlotte keeps his memory alive with lots of Superman memorabilia. She took me to the scene of the accident where she made a small memorial. She wants to warn other people to drive carefully.  Nearby the memorial is a very quiet and beautiful beach. We waded in the water and talked about her son, Russel. R.I.P.

シャーロットはフルタイムで父の世話をしている女性です。彼女は笑いの絶えない、温かさと喜び、何より思いやりに溢れた人です。私の父の世話をしているだけでなく、彼女には、一本,足の無い犬とウルフキャット(詳細は後程)と自身の家族もいます。　痛ましいことに、彼女の息子さんは恐ろしい交通事故で亡くなっています。ほんの二年前の事です。20歳の若さでした。彼は熱烈なスーパーマンのファンでした。シャーロットは彼の記憶や思い出をスパーマンコレクショとともに忘れないようにしています。彼女に連れられて、事故のあったその場所に行きました。そこには彼女の作った小さな記念碑がありました。彼女は今尚、人々に車の運転は気をつけるように警告したいのです。その記念碑の近くには静かで美しい浜辺があります。彼女の息子、ラッセルの話をしながら、私達は水の中を歩いていました。

After going through such a hardship, losing one's own child , how could people carry on in a spirit of goodwill, caring not only for people , but for all lives around them.  As Superman used to be like that,  Charlotte does encourage us to keep going … wading in the water .

**‘wade in the water **

Literally, ‘wade’ means to walk in the shallow water (knee deep)  Figuratively , to make one’s way with difficulty or labor.

‘Wade in the water’ is known as an African American Spiritual (黒人霊歌)sung all over the world. 

The phrases in the lyrics- ‘God gonna trouble the water’ and ‘wade in the water’ are based on the famous narrative in The Old Testament,Exodus 14:21-31. And in the New Testament: John 5:29 

This Spiritual song was also used as secret coded messages to escaping slaves.  The song ‘Wade in the Water’ warned slaves to flee dry land for the water so that the dogs and owners couldn’t track their scent. 

Many singers sing ‘Wade in the Water’. 

Personally I like the one performed by Take 6 in a live show. 

The beautiful scene , John and Charlotte wading in the water was something symbolic to me . 

Wade in the water は比喩的に困難さや労力を伴いながら前に進むと言う意味があります。

これはまた、黒人霊歌、ゴスペルの一曲でもあります。この歌詞、wade in the water , God gonna trouble the water は旧約聖書出エジプト記( モーゼが海を渡るシーン)やヨハネの黙示録がベースになっていますが、多くの黒人霊歌同様、この歌は暗号化されたメッセージとなっています。19世紀、何千もの奴隷が自由を求めて逃亡するのを援助していた秘密結社がこの歌にメッセージを込めたのです。陸ではなく、水の中を逃げなさい、そうすれば匂いは水で消されて追手の犬や主人から逃げられると… 

ジョンとシャーロットさんが美しい海辺でwade in the water するシーンは、わたしには何処か象徴的におもえました。
