The Japanese Student Pt. 1

There is a big difference between Japanese students and American students.

Actually, there are many differences, but the one I want to talk about today is.....

Japanese students are so quiet!  Sometimes at my tango lessons, a teacher would come from Argentina to teach.  I was lucky because they could often speak English. Usually, they would have someone to translate to Japanese for them.  Sometimes they would say, "Are there any questions?"

Silence.

Then the teacher would talk some more and then ask an open-ended question like "Why do you think this is important?"

Silence.

I could see the look of frustration on the Tango teacher's face.  It was the same look my high school biology teacher had on her face when no one spoke up.  She then told us that if no one had any questions, then it meant that we understood everything and so she was going to give us a test!

I had a similar experience in my aikido class......

TO BE CONTINUED....

Thank-you for checking out my blog. If you have any friends, please tell them about it!
Leave a comment and have a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful day!
