When it comes to 名詞/〜ing
...という事/話になると
religion (n) 宗教

1. そうでなければ (副詞)
I started earlier otherwise I might have been late.
2. 違ったふうに (副詞)
I think otherwise .

When I was a child, I went to church every Sunday with my family. I believed in God, and I couldn't imagine how anyone could think otherwise. Then I took a philosophy course in college and I began to open my mind.
Many people around the world believe in different kinds of gods. In Christianity, there is only one god. In Shinto there are many, and in Buddhism, there seems to be none (I may be wrong). I like the way Japanese people are very open-minded when it comes to religion.
Now, I don't believe in any god, but if I had to choose one, I would pray to the Sun. The Sun gives us life and allows us to exist. Without it, we would be nothing.
