#814 Autumn Flowers

皆さん、こんにちは！今日は、生徒さんが持ってきてくださった美しいお花と、日本の秋の象徴である植物についてお話ししたいと思います。

I was so happy when a student gave me this beautiful arrangement of autumn flowers! I noticed that the vase contains a few plants that are central to the Japanese autumn aesthetic. I see the tall Susuki (Japanese Silver Grass)  and the lovely white Shūmeigiku (Japanese Anemone).

The Shūmeigiku is a beautiful flower that blooms in late summer and fall, and its name literally means "autumn chrysanthemum." The Susuki is one of the Seven Herbs of Autumn (Aki no Nanakusa) and is often used as a symbolic offering during Otsukimi (moon viewing), as it represents a bountiful harvest. It’s a wonderful reminder to appreciate the delicate beauty of the season.
