#769 愛の虫、ラブバグ

皆さん、こんにちは！最近、バイクに乗っている人を見て、ある虫のことを思い出しました。それは、私の故郷フロリダにいる、ちょっと変わった虫の話です。

I recently saw a man riding a motorcycle with no visor on his helmet, and it made me wonder how many bugs had smashed into his face! That made me think about a strange bug from my hometown of Pensacola called a Lovebug.

Lovebugs are not like other bugs; they don't bite and they aren't dirty or annoying. However, they do make a big mess. When they fly, they often fly in pairs, mating while they fly like this for days. How romantic! If you're driving in Florida in the summer, your car windshield can become splattered with them. Even though they are a nuisance, I feel a little sad for them. I thought, if you ride a motorcycle in Florida, you should definitely use your visor, or you will be unwittingly hit by love!

(先日、ヘルメットにシールド（バイザー）を付けていないバイクの男性を見かけ、一体何匹の虫が彼の顔にぶつかったのだろうと思いました。その光景を見て、私の故郷ペンサコーラにいる「ラブバグ」という変わった虫のことを思い出しました。)

(ラブバグは他の虫とは違います。刺さないし、汚くも迷惑でもありません。ただ、一つだけ大きな汚れを残します。彼らはペアで飛ぶことが多いのですが、何日も飛びながら交尾を続けるのです。なんてロマンチックでしょう！ 夏にフロリダを運転していると、車のフロントガラスが彼らでべったりと汚れてしまうことがあります。迷惑な存在ではありますが、彼らを見ると少し悲しい気持ちになります。フロリダでバイクに乗るなら、絶対にバイザーを使った方がいいですよ。そうしないと、知らず知らずのうちに愛にぶつかってしまいますからね！)
