#791 国勢調査が来た日

皆さん、こんにちは！今日は、先日経験した、日本のちょっとした面白い出来事についてお話ししたいと思います。

Yesterday, a man came to my door to deliver the census forms. I was surprised that the government sends a person to every house to hand-deliver the forms. In fact, Japan conducts its census every five years, which is twice as often as the U.S., where it’s done every ten years. However, some of my students mentioned that they think this is a waste of taxpayer money because most of the information that the questionnaire asks for is already available at the city hall. It felt like a small moment of Japanese bureaucracy right on my doorstep! It reminded me how much more organized and meticulous the procedures are here compared to the U.S.
